What is PLA Coating?

PLA Coating is a bio-based and compostable alternative to traditional plastic coatings like polyethylene (PE).

Important Limitations:

  • Not for Hot Liquids: PLA has a lower heat resistance than PE. It can soften at temperatures around 50-60°C (122-140°F), making it unsuitable for very hot beverages like coffee or tea.

  • Industrial Composting Required: It will not break down effectively in a backyard compost pile or in landfills. It requires a specific industrial composting facility.

  • Higher Cost: It is generally more expensive than conventional PE coating.
